Charmed Life Studio Art Opening on January 7.... 2011!!

Charmed Life Studio

guest artist
"CDLs and MFAs"
Featuring Work by Sean Reichert

Art Opening
January 7th

6:00 PM to 10:00PM

Charmed Life Studio is proud to feature “CDLs and MFAs” opening January 7th 6:00PM till 10:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Live music will be provided by Ben Frock and The Subatomic Particles. There will be hors d’oeuvres provided by the Chameleon Café, coffee from Zeke’s Coffee, some complimentary wine and beer; attendees are also welcome to bring their own beverages.

Charmed Life Studio is located at 4505 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21214.

Sean Reichert grew up in rural Pennsylvania. His grandfather and uncles are almost all truck drivers. His father, a lottery manager, looked down with contempt at their “low class” jobs, long hours and low wages. As a child, he was fascinated by their big rigs, piles of spare parts, distinct slang and insular culture. For years, however, he shared his father’s ignorant contempt of his extended family.

“I realized at MICA that all those guys were busting their asses to support their families.” Sean says “In the Renaissance, the only people who had their portraits painted were the wealthy and powerful. I wanted to do something like that for people who worked for a living.” This show is predominantly composed of featureless portraits of his family members. All of the portraits are from the chest up. Each is painted in bright, vibrantly colored house paint. Using the same medium he also produces portraits of heavy machinery and industrial equipment. “None of my extended family understood my art. I’m trying to produce work that they appreciate using paints that they probably have lying in the basement.”

Ben Frock, has played with George Clinton, Soul Cannon, The All Mighty Senators, The Todd Marcus Nonette, Brad Gunson, Chris Pumphry and many more. He is an active member of the Out of Your Head collective, the Phil Cunneff New Quartet, the Rumba Club, and is the musical director of experimental jazz quartet, The Subatomic Particles. The Subatomic Particles started out playing jazz standards. They began playing improvised music to keep from getting bored. They now play almost exclusively original music. www.myspace.com/befrotrumpet

Sean Reichert received his MFA from MICA in 2010. He is currently a coffee roaster at Zeke’s Coffee. In his free time he enjoys painting, hunting and working on bicycles. His work will be featured at Charmed Life Studio from January 7th until February 5th.

Lauraville Musician Highlighted on NPR

Listen to Lauraville's own Tom Mitchell, a member the Blue Rhythm Boys who were interviewed on NPR. Tom is a frequent visitor to the Main Street Tuesday Market.

Here is a link to the site and interview: http://www.yellowcarmusic.com/bluerhythmboys/index.htm

From The Rhythm Boys website: Blending the blues of Mississippi John Hurt with the "hot club" swing of Django Reinhardt, The Blue Rhythm Boys have delighted audiences with their tight vocals and hot guitar playing since 1997. Tom Mitchell (vocal, guitar), Jim Stephanson (vocal, guitar), Vince McCool (trumpet) and John Previti (upright bass) bring authenticity and originality to their own smoky mix of hot jazz, blues and hokum.
